Premature Ejaculation: Symptoms, Causes, Diagnosis and Treatment

When a man ejaculates too soon during sexual activity, this is known as premature ejaculation. The issue with ejaculating is quite prevalent. The average time it takes for one partner to ejaculate after beginning intercourse, according to a study of 500 couples, is 5.5 minutes. Males who have intercourse with other men may extend this period. According to international standards, premature ejaculation is defined as the habit of ejaculating frequently within 1 minute of entering your partner.

But you and your partner should discuss whether or not the time it takes to ejaculate is satisfactory. Ejaculatory delays are a treatable condition if they cause you significant emotional anguish.

There are two forms of premature ejaculation, which are as follows:

  1. Basic premature ejaculation, which describes the situation in which you have always experienced the issue
  2. A secondary case of premature ejaculation, also known as “acquired premature ejaculation,” occurs when the condition was only recently discovered.

Having a traumatic sexual encounter at a young age can be one of the key psychological causes of primary premature ejaculation. Other possible explanations include having a genetic predisposition.

Both physical and psychological variables have been implicated as potential contributors to secondary premature ejaculation. Consuming an excessive amount of alcohol and having an inflammation of the prostate gland are also examples of possible physical causes (prostatitis).

The main symptom of premature ejaculation

One of the most telling signs of premature ejaculation is an inability to postpone urination for longer than three minutes following penetration of the urethra. However, it is possible for it to happen in any and all sexual scenarios, including while masturbating.

There are a lot of people who believe that they have signs of premature ejaculation, but the symptoms don’t really match up with the criteria for a diagnosis. It’s not unusual to have an early ejaculation every once in a while.

What causes premature ejaculation?

Several mental and physical factors can cause a man to ejaculate too soon. It can happen when a person is too excited or stimulated, or if their penis is very sensitive. It could also happen if they’re nervous or uncomfortable with a new partner.

These are some other common reasons:

  • Nervousness about your sexual performance
  • Guilty feelings
  • Depression, stress, and problems with relationships
  • Erectile dysfunction
  • People who don’t have enough of a chemical called serotonin in their brains may have trouble ejaculating on time.

How is premature ejaculation diagnosed?

Talk to your doctor if you feel that premature ejaculation is affecting your ability to have satisfying sexual encounters. They will conduct a physical examination on you and then examine various things. Your doctor will provide a diagnosis after listening to your responses and may prescribe some test work to further investigate.

In addition to this, they will be able to respond to any questions you may have and reassure you that this is a problem that many people experience.

Your healthcare practitioner will inquire about your sexual history as well as your medical background. Your healthcare professional may also perform a physical examination on you. If you experience early ejaculation as well as difficulty achieving or maintaining an erection, your doctor may decide to perform blood tests. There is a possibility that the tests will assess your hormone levels.

Your primary care physician may, in certain circumstances, recommend that you see a urologist who specialises in the treatment of sexual difficulties.

The first thing your urologist will do during an exam is asking you about your sexual history. Most likely, you will be asked:

  • How long has this been going on?
  • How does it happen?
  • How often does it happen?
  • Does it happen every time you try to have a sexual encounter?
  • Happens with every partner?
  • Does masturbation cause you to ejaculate too soon?
  • Do you find it hard to keep an erection going?
  • Even though the questions are personal, it’s important to answer them honestly so your urologist can figure out what’s wrong with you.

Your urologist will also want to know if you have any other health problems and what medicines, including over-the-counter drugs, supplements, and natural remedies, you are taking. You will also be asked if you have used alcohol or drugs that are against the law.

When should one go to the doctor?

If you find that you ejaculate earlier than you would want throughout the majority of your sexual interactions, you should discuss this with your primary care physician. It is natural to experience embarrassment while talking about issues related to sexual health. But you shouldn’t allow that to stop you from having a conversation with your service provider. Early ejaculation is a frequent condition that can be treated.

It’s possible that having a chat with one of the people providing care will help ease your worries. For instance, finding out that premature ejaculation is a normal occurrence is likely to be reassuring because it shows that the condition is not abnormal. It is also useful to be aware that the typical amount of time it takes from the start of sexual activity to ejaculation is approximately five minutes.

Masturbating one and two hours before sexual activity. Use a thick condom in order to assist in reducing sensation. Taking a few slow, deep breaths in order to temporarily suppress the ejaculatory reflex (an automatic reflex of the body, during which you ejaculate). Engaging in sexual activity with your partner when he or she is on top (so that the other person can pull away when you are about to ejaculate).

The majority of people see a natural improvement in their condition of premature ejaculation as time passes. On the other hand, the condition is likely to be long-lasting for males who have primary ejaculation and who have been affected by it ever since they became sexually active.

If you have early ejaculation, doing a kegel exercise can help strengthen the ischiocavernosus and bulbocavernosus muscles, which are in the area of the pelvic floor muscles. These are around the penis and move when the penis gets excited. These are the best sexual activities to do if you want to ejaculate early.
